National Lutheran Schools Week

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in His way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.- Psalms 37:23-24

This week is National Lutheran Schools Week and this weekend at the 10:45 am worship service we will worship and celebrate with the families of our school. Every year we thank God for all the wonderful blessings of Christian education that God has provided through our Lutheran school and its dedicated teachers for the last 135 years. Think of all the children who have be discipled and given the gift of faith in Jesus! From the very beginning, Immanuel Lutheran Church made Christian education a priority. Our school was founded on November 21, 1881, just ten months after the church was organized. It began with just one teacher, Mr. G. Wente, and only three pupils. This year we are blessed with seventeen full and part-time teachers and almost ninety students. God is good!

Lutherans have always emphasized the importance of a Christian education. In fact, you may not be aware, but our Lutheran school is a part of the largest Protestant parochial school system in America. Lutheran churches around the country support 1,368 schools that instruct over 250,000 students in a Christ-centered education. Lutheran schools have their beginnings with Martin Luther, the founder of Lutheranism. He wrote, “Where Holy Scripture does not rule, I certainly advise no one to send his child.” Aren't these truly prescient words today!

Here at Immanuel we have been blessed by God with the freedom to teach God’s Word in the classroom, provide a moral compass of right and wrong for our students, begin our days with prayer, worship at chapel each week and create a loving community following in the footsteps of our Savior Jesus Christ. On top of all of this, our Lutheran school provides an excellent rigorous academic curriculum. Our responsibility as Christian parents is to train the next generation to be faithful Christian disciples. Thank God that our church supports a school that facilitates and accomplishes such a grand endeavor each and every day for the glory of God and His Eternal Kingdom!

God bless,

Pastor Joel
